- 10 - 3.14 Employee benefits The Group has both defined contribution plans and defined benefit. A defined contribution plan is a pension plan under which the Group pays fixed contributions into a separate entity. The Group has no legal or constructive obligations to pay further contributions if the fund does not hold sufficient assets to pay all employees the benefits relating to employee service in the current and prior periods. A defined benefit plan is a pension plan that is not a defined contribution plan. Typically defined benefit plans define an amount of pension benefit that an employee will receive on retirement, usually dependent on one or more factors such as age, years of service and compensation.  Defined contribution plans - Provident fund The Group pays contributions to a separate fund which is managed by an external fund manager in accordance with the provident fund Act. B.E. 2530. The Group has no further payment obligations once the contributions have been paid. The contributions are recognised as employee benefit expense when they are due.  Defined benefit plans - Retirement benefits Under Labour Laws applicable in Thailand and the Group’s employment policy, all employees completing 120 days of service are entitled to severance pay on termination or retrenchment without cause or upon retirement age of 60. The severance pay will be at the rate according to number of years of service as stipulated in the Labour Law which is currently at a maximum rate of 400 days of final salary. In addition, the Group has a policy to reward gold to the employees upon retirement. - Other long-term benefits The Group has a policy to reward gold to employees who have provided their services to the Group at their 10, 20 and 30 year anniversaries. The liability recognised in the statement of financial position in respect of defined benefit pension plans is the present value of the defined benefit obligation at the end of the reporting period together with adjustments for unrecognised past-service costs. The defined benefit obligation is calculated by independent actuaries using the projected unit credit method. The present value of the defined benefit obligation is determined by discounting the estimated future cash outflows using market yield of government bonds that that have terms to maturity approximating to the terms of the related pension liability. The estimated future cash flows shall reflect employee salaries, turnover rate, mortality rate, length of service and others. Remeasurement gains and losses arising from experience adjustments and changes in actuarial assumptions are charged or credited to other comprehensive income in the period in which they arise. Past-service costs are recognised immediately in the statement of profit or loss. Past-service costs related to plan amendment is recognised as expense in the statement of profit or loss when the plan amendment is effective. 3.15 Provisions Provisions are recognised when the Group has a present legal or constructive obligation as a result of past events, it is probable that an outflow of resources will be required to settle the obligation, and a reliable estimate of the amount can be made.
