IRPC’s POLIMAXX Becomes Thailand’s First UL Certified PP

IRPC and Milliken collaborate to enhance energy efficiency and promote environmental conservation in plastic manufacturing.

IRPC Public Company Limited, led by Wanida Utaisomnapa, Senior Executive Vice President, stated, “It is delightful for IRPC to reaffirm the organisation’s vision ‘TO SHAPE MATERIAL AND ENERGY SOLUTION IN HARMONY WITH LIFE’ with the approval of UL Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) label from Underwriter Laboratories (UL) for four categories of Polypropylene ‘POLIMAXX’, including K4510B, K4520UB, K4527B, and 1140VC. Underwriter Laboratories (UL) is the world’s acclaimed laboratory investigating proficiency in energy reduction during the plastic manufacturing process, promoting energy saving as well as GHG reduction.”

The achievement resulted from the collaborative ventures between IRPC and Milliken & Company (Milliken), a petrochemical products manufacturer and distributor, to develop PP products with a combination of Millad NX8000 additives and Hyperform® Nucleator to elevate the plastic pellets’ properties.

All four grades of IRPC’s products have been certified for energy-saving efficiency during the production process, helping to reduce environmental impacts. Underwriter Laboratories (UL), USA, has confirmed the company’s commitment to technology engagement to develop products and prioritise environmental impacts.

“The UL ECV labels on IRPC’s ‘POLIMAXX’ plastic pellet product ensure consumers of our commitment to delivering plastic pellets based on sustainability and environmental awareness. By joining forces with Milliken, the alliance has driven IRPC to create added value for product quality and reassure consumers that their chosen products contribute to environmental conservation. These four grades of PP are globally leading products manufactured to meet consumer demand with a focus on environment, society, and sustainability,” said Wanida.

IRPC and Milliken furthered their collaboration by hosting “Future Forward: Innovating for Sustainability & Energy Efficiency” at Ladprao Suite, Floor 2, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok, attracting significant interest from the business sector and general participants. The event contributed to a business development framework addressing global trends, highlighting “Sustainability, Environmental Conservation, and Energy Resource Cultivation and Conservation.”

At the event, IRPC introduced product ranges of PP Random Copolymer with Millad NX 8000 Additive and PP Homopolymer. Among high flow rate grade products, Milliken’s Hyperform® Nucleator additives are used to increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption in the production process, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Net Zero goal by reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2060.

The forum aimed to exchange views and ideas from both domestic and international experts, including Vincent Wang, South Asia Commercial Director, Milliken & Company, who gave a keynote speech on “Polyolefins Market Update & Sustainability Initiative”; Anh Ho, Account Manager, UL Retail & Consumer Products – Product Sustainability Services, UL VS (Vietnam) Co., Ltd., who introduced the usage and benefits of the UL ECV Label under the topic “UL Overview and Growth Opportunity with UL ECV Label”; and Kongsak Dokbua, Vice President, Plastics Market Intelligent Department, Plastics Institute of Thailand, Ministry of Industry, who spoke on “Opportunities for the Packaging Industry in Thailand’s Economic Landscape.”

Another discussion panel, “Navigating Innovation for Sustainable Plastic Solutions,” featured Promporn Sinsoke, Senior Vice President, Integrated Petrochemical, IRPC, and Dr. Zina Zhu, Asia Senior Market Manager, Milliken & Company, who shared their views on cooperation in PP plastic pellets development, including grades providing more clarity without adding Optical Brightener (OB) for safety in food contact and grades with high processing rate properties impacting energy reduction in production, among other topics.

The UL ECV label certification for environmental conservation reaffirms IRPC’s commitment to linking the value chain through cooperation with partners and creating value for sustainable growth. This includes increasing the competitive strengths of Thai entrepreneurs in the international market.
